Causes of Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis (OA) is caused by the degeneration of the cartilage of the
joints, and the breakdown of the cellular process of repairing and
maintaining cartilage. The joint pain associated with osteoarthritis
is the result of the wear and tear of repetitive joint use, or a normal
result of growing older, and generally affects the weight bearing joints,
such as the spine, hip, and knee. This type of OA is known as primary
osteoarthritis and in most cases calls for an ongoing treatment to
address arthritis pain relief. The joint pain associated with secondary
osteoarthritis is caused by various factors, such as inherited joint
structure abnormalities, sports injuries, trauma, or a previous inflammatory
disorder. Arthritis treatment in these cases is on an as needed basis.
Osteoarthritis causes achy joint pain, resulting in limitation of movement
as well as loss of dexterity. In time, osteoarthritic joints enter
a vicious cycle of progressive degeneration, as the arthritis pain sufferer
tends to use the affected joints less often because of the pain. The
symptoms of OA generally begin around middle age, and by age 60, many
people have some form ofosteoarthritis. Diagnosis isprimarily done through
a thorough history, physical exam, and x-ray, though the correlation
is not always accurate. Around 40% of patients with the worst x-ray classification
for osteoarthritis are pain-free. There is currently no reliable way
to predict the need for arthritis pain relief in
osteoarthritis patients.
The root of osteoarthritis is the destruction
of the chondrocytes. The logical way of solving this problem lies in
building up substances in the joint that are chondro protective and chondro
regenerative, and, simultaneously reducing inflammation in the degenerative
joint. Such substances provide arthritis pain management and relief for
joint pain and inflammation without harming the joint itself.
